Blog 7- How can your major make the world a better place

Hello everyone for the last time! Time goes by really fast for sure.

To close this blog, I´m going to talk more about my personal experiences and interest regarding my career. Growing up I always liked to observe my surroundings and get to know what was happening and why, besides, my preferences for humanities were constantly there, so by the time passed I was aware that I´ll be ending studying in that field.

When the time came I wasn´t really sure about what I wanted, but I knew that it had to be something that connects me with my environment, so I ended up in sociology, which I don´t regret.

Now that I´m learning new things, I hope that in the future I can contribute to make positive changes by investigating and participating actively in organizations or institutions that will allow me to connect to the culture and people that form the different societies. Especially in subjects like feminism that it´s a relevant matter that still needs to be spoken and worked more deeply.

Blog 6- Post Graduate Studies

Hi everyone!! If I think about the future I´m not sure what I’m going to do, but I have some ideas. First, I would like to keep studying and do a master’s degree, because I think it can give me more tools and knowledge to develop my career. In that sense, I would like to explore and learn more about culture, maybe sociology of art or music, which are topics I really enjoy.

Since I´ve been a child, I constantly dreamt about traveling overseas, so I would like to study a course outside Chile, I´ve always been attracted to countries like Netherlands, New Zealand, or Ireland, so that could be an option. Besides, I would take the opportunity to speak and practice another language and meet new places and people. I discard a distance learning programme because I think it could be a more valuable experience to be in person in the country.

Blog 5- Write about an artist or celebrity you admire

 Hello everyone!!

This time I´m going to talk about one of the artists I admire. His name is Kim Namjoon, he is a South Korean, rapper, singer, producer, and composer. He´s the leader of the pop band BTS. Through the years he has been participating actively in creating multiple songs and albums. One of his solo work is a mixtape called “Mono” released in 2018, and as a group one of their latest work, is the album called “BE”, which speaks about topics related to the different experiences and emotions in this time of the pandemic.

I admire him because his lyrics are introspective and the way he uses metaphors is really impressive to describe the way we feel in life. In his songs, he speaks about social topics, the importance of mental health, and the message of self-love. One of the things that he said that I always keep in my mind is that music transcends the language barriers, which I think is very important not only in music, but also in the way we accept other people and cultures.

Blog 4- A photograph and its story

Welcome again!

The picture that I present to you this time, was taken a couple of years ago by me. It was my pet, called Ichigo. There are plenty of pictures of him, but I like this the most. First of all, this photo holds a special place in my heart because he was the first pet in my life, and became an honorable member of my family. Thanks to him I learned more about being responsible and respectful to animals.

Secondly, another reason why this is my favorite photograph is that reminds me of the happiness that my mother felt thanks to Ichigo. He became another son to her jaja, most of the time he was flying around my house and standing on our heads. Eventually, I was really impressed by the tie that someone can have to a pet. So, all his pictures grow into beautiful memories of my younger self.

Blog 3- My favorite piece of technology

 Hello everyone!

My favorite piece of technology is the photographic camera. The first time I’ve got one in my hand I was approximately 7 years old, it was Christmas and someone gave it to my dad as a gift, I was very excited to use it and take pictures of everything. Currently, I have one that I bought, it’s not a professional one, but I use it when I go out with my friends and on vacation with my family.

I really like it because allows me to capture nature, landscapes, and the people that surround me, and keep those memories with me through the years. Even though I love my camera, and I´d be sad if I didn’t have it, I don’t think my life would change that much considering that I still have my phone with his own camera, so I’ll be alright.

BLOG 2- Why did you choose this career/study programme?

My experience at university has been certainly curious, I have never thought that my first year would be online and in the middle of a global pandemic, without being able to go to the campus and meet my new friends. It's been difficult because sometimes it gets tiring being on the computer all day, but I still like my career so far.

When I applied to different universities last year, I considered careers like anthropology, history, or political science, however I finally decided for sociology considering I've always been interested in what happens around me and the society, along with the study programmes that include different subjects from social life. It’s funny if I think about it because when I was a child my dream job was to become a doctor, even my parents bought books related to medicine for me, but it turned out that my interests took a different path.

For the future, I haven’t thought deeply about the kind of job I would like, but I’d be happy if it involves traveling to other countries around the world, and having the opportunities to interact with other societies and cultures.

Blog 1- Personal Information

Hello everyone!

My name is Camila Bahamondes, I was born in Santiago. Currently, I´m still living here. I am a member of a family of 5, because I like to include my grandfather even if he does not live with us. My older brother is a teacher, and my mom loves to dance and take care of her plants. On the other hand, my dad likes to see with me horror movies on the weekends.

I´m currently studying sociology at the University of Chile, this is my second year, which has been interesting and difficult as well. I hope one day to attend classes on the campus, due to the pandemic we are facing nowadays I have not been able to.

My hobbies are reading books, especially the classics. I love to go to the beach and watch the sunset, and also discover new music that can bring me different emotions. In that sense a moment that I really keep in my mind was my first concert with the band Coldplay, I was 15 years old at that time, and after that experience, I got really sick because it was cold, so I got the flu.
